JUST A BAG OF RECYCLABLES

Transforming Lives Through Faith and Action.

Several years ago, an ordinary drive behind a truck resulted in an extraordinary call to action. A precariously perched bag of recyclables fell off the truck ahead and narrowly missed mine. In that seemingly erratic moment, I felt a profound nudge from the Holy Spirit—a divine whisper that turned a routine day into a mission. It wasn’t just a bag of recyclables but a call to recycle hope, faith, and love into the lives of those in need.
In the days following the incident, the concept of creating a ministry centered around collecting recyclables to support single-parent families began to take shape. The charter for a new ministry was laid with prayer, planning, and action. Each bottle, each can, symbolized not just an act of environmental stewardship but a building block of hope and support for families needing assistance with necessities.

Our humble endeavor soon blossomed into a thriving ministry. Once overlooked and discarded, recyclables became a source of significant funding. Since that day, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised and funneled directly into single-parent families grappling with life’s challenges. But the impact has been more than just financial; it has been transformative. The ministry became a bridge connecting families to a Christian community that genuinely cares. Many have come to know Christ through this initiative.

“Our ministry of recycling for redemption embodies these principles, turning everyday actions into extraordinary blessings.”

The Mercy Ministry foundation is deeply rooted in the theological understanding of God’s care for the vulnerable and His call for us to be stewards of His creation. Scriptures such as James 1:27 remind us that pure and undefiled religion involves caring for orphans and widows in their distress. The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) challenges us to use our resources—no matter how small or seemingly insignificant—for the Kingdom’s growth and the betterment of others. Our ministry of recycling for redemption embodies these principles, turning simple everyday actions into extraordinary blessings.

“The slightest idea placed in your heart by the Spirit of God has the potential to launch a BIG scheme to change lives.”

In the hurried pace of modern life, it’s easy to overlook the small whispers of the Holy Spirit, the gentle nudges towards acts of kindness, or the quiet inspirations that, if nurtured, can bloom into movements of change and healing. The slightest idea placed in our hearts by the Spirit of God has the potential to launch a scheme to change lives. Through these acts, we become conduits of His love, agents of His grace, and builders of His kingdom.

The beauty of small ideas is in their potential to ripple outwards. What starts as a simple act of compassion, a word of encouragement, or a modest initiative can grow beyond our imagination. Like the mustard seed in the parable Jesus told (Matthew 13:31-32), these small ideas, when embraced, can expand into something far more significant than their humble beginnings.
What started as a simple initiative of collecting recyclables to raise funds has blossomed under the stewardship of a dedicated team. More importantly, the team’s approach goes beyond mere economic assistance; they Aim to equip single parents with the skills and confidence needed to navigate the challenges of single parenthood.

“Just a Bag of Recyclables” represents the profound impact of combining simple actions with faith and a spirit of service. Even small deeds with heartfelt generosity and compassion can lead to life-changing outcomes. This initiative is a powerful testament to the ripple effect of faith in action, proving that no effort is too minor in the grand tapestry of God’s work.
